DMV Extension for Sandy Victims who lost cars or paperwork

In response to the severe weather condition caused by Hurricane Sandy, Governor Cuomo allowed a grace period for some license, learner permit and registration transactions.  The extension applies to residents of New York City, and counties of Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk.

If you live in one of the counties listed above, we can back date your plate surrender to October 29th, which is the day Hurricane Sandy hit your area.

Here is the link to DMV form MV-44DR-F. Complete and sign the form and mail it to:

Albany District Office
224-260 S. Pearl Street
Albany, NY 12202

In the box above the attestation, write a short note requesting your plates be back dated to October 29th, due to Hurricane Sandy.

Please be sure to indicate which address you would like your plate surrender receipt mailed to.
